Tips for a healthy holiday season

Christmas is just around the corner, which means there is going to be, cocktails, beers, pavlova and chocolate! And ohhh my gosh we are here for it!

We both absolutely LOVE this time of the year and everything that comes with it! Quality time with family and friends, beach volleyball, backyard cricket, sandy feet and swims on repeat! We are both summer babes at heart!

We know that this time of year can be tricky when navigating nutrition and exercise - it can easily go out the wazzo with so many social occasions and yummy food around…

We are all about enjoying and embracing this time of year but keeping balance too.

Here are our top tips to help you sneak in a little more nutrients and movement, whilst enjoying everything that the summer season is all about!

Don’t forget the H2O

With a few extra drink options ;) it’s so easy to forget to drink enough water! Keeping hydrated is so important for your healtH! Water helps to flush out toxins, keeps your energy levels high and helps your skin glow.

When we’re dehydrated our skin can feel dry and dull, it’s harder to concentrate, our muscles cramp up and everything is just harder! Always do your best to keep water as your main drink!

Buy yourself a big 1.5 liter drink bottle and make a conscious effort to drink at least 2 bottles each day, always have a glass of water after every meal and get into the herbal teas!

Also embrace the one water one wine motto on the big nights… it truly helps with the hangovers!

Make fruit ya friend

When you feel like you need something sweet opt for some of the amazing summer fruits on offer rather than reaching for the cake! Reach for the cake sometimes tho…. just not every single time ;)

Pineapple, watermelon, strawberries, grapes, just to name a few! All delicious and packed with essential vitamins and minerals. You’ll get the sweetness you’re after along with some nourishing benefits!

And do not worry about the sugar content - seriously fruit is your friend! If you are having 2-3 pieces of fruit a day that is fantastic.

Daily green boost

Kick start your day with a green juice or smoothie!

This is the perfect way to make sure you’re packing in some vitamins and minerals before 10am.

Green juice helps the body to detoxify, eliminates waste and regulates blood sugar levels.

Getting into the green juice habit is one of the greatest health choices you can make!

Try this delicious green smoothie made with lots of mango, banana and spinach - yum!

Get active with your whole family!

There is nothing like a family game on Christmas day or when holidaying at the beach, it’s an awesome way to connect with each other, have a laugh and get in some movement.

Backyard cricket, beach volleyball, marco polo, a family walk or bike ride. Between yet why not get everyone around the lappy for a She Moves workouts ;)

There are so many fun, free ways to get active with your family and it’s often when the best memories are made!

Moderation is key!

Life's too short not to enjoy a champagne breakfast and Christmas pudding with your loved ones!

Remember, you are on holiday and you deserve to treat yourself here and there without feeling guilty!

It’s all about moderation and balance! We always say to our clients; it’s what you do everyday that matters not what you do every once and awhile.

Enjoy this time, embrace it with a little balance and know that it’s only for a short period so enjoy it while it lasts!

Lap up that sun, keep moving and have a beautiful holiday!
