Beginning My Fitness Journey Again: Life After Baby in 2025
Those first few weeks with a baby are some of the toughest I’ve ever faced. Sleepless nights, constant feeding, a recovering body and the endless cycle of nappy changes can leave you feeling physically and mentally drained. Not to mention running around after my little toddler - life doesn’t stop! In those early days, rest is absolutely essential - your body is healing, and your mind is adjusting to a whole new world. Movement might be the last thing on your mind, and that’s okay.
But there comes a moment, however small, when you start to feel a little more like yourself again - yah! It feels nearly as good as a full night’s sleep - trust me! Maybe it’s a spark of energy or feeling like you’re ready to step outside for some fresh air. When that moment comes, it’s your time mama. Moving your body, even in the smallest ways, can remind you of your strength and give you a sense of achievement during a time when everything feels tough.
With a newborn at home, my life feels unpredictable for me, so my plan for 2025 is to begin with flexibility. I’ll begin by planning my best-case scenario workout the night before, but always have a backup plan ready. After a tough night, I’ll stick with something simple like a front-pack walk or some gentle stretching - our Mini Movement Bites are great for that, because even the smallest movement counts.
You too? Begin with Small Steps
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, try beginning with just five minutes of movement. That’s all it takes. This year, I’m going to begin by fitting in quick stretches or breathing exercises, and committing to a few days each week where I can focus on a longer workout, but I’ll keep it realistic. The most important thing is to begin with something I enjoy - it’ll make it easier to stick with.
At She Moves, there are so many great options for new mums to begin their fitness journey, and gosh, it feels so good knowing all our beautiful fitness trainers are trained in pre and postnatal fitness. I’m excited to begin with our Pelvic Floor & Core Restore class then progressing through our pathway back to the exercise I really love - Pilates and running! But I'm not in a rush, I know rehabbing properly will set me up for the long run! We’ve got so many postpartum workouts available if you too are looking to ease back into movement after baby.
My Goal for 2025
For me, 2025 is all about consistency. I’m going to begin by committing to three She Moves workouts a week and three wholesome meals a day. It’s about prioritising my health and making time for myself.
Starting movement after baby is a journey, and it’s all about beginning where you are. It doesn’t need to be perfect - just keep beginning, one small step at a time. I’m excited to celebrate every win along the way, and I know you will too.
You’re doing amazing, mama! Let’s begin together!
