Member spotlight: Meet first time Mum Kelly and how she has learnt to prioritise herself

Our members do incredible things and we want to share them with you! She Moves trainer Nic sat down with member and first time mum Kelly Boyed. Kelly discusses how she found She Moves and how it kept her active safely during pregnancy and into her postpartum journey.

Tell us all a little about who Kelly is.

I am Kelly, and I am 29 years old my partner and I have an 11-month-old baby boy, and we have two cats and two budgies. I was back at work when he was 6months old and studying at the moment so life is busy.

How did you hear about She Moves? And what workouts have you been doing?

I went to the baby expo in 2021, I was unsubscribing from all of the emails you get subscribed to, then I saw the She Moves one and decided that I did want to learn about exercising safely during pregnancy. I ended up subscribing to the emails and did the free she grows workout online, after that, I decided to join up and do the pregnancy-safe workouts, I learned so much knowledge when doing these workouts, including going to see a womens health physio both during pregnancy and pospartum, I was dealing with really bad pelvic girdle pain so these workouts were perfect for me.

What is your favourite thing about being a part of She Moves?

I like that there is a lot of support, and there is a lot of respect, and there is no pressure to always be pushing your body every time you step on your mat, you can make modifications and some days just showing up is enough, there is a great amount of flexibility and understanding, especially for mums.

How has She Moves and moving helped you with the busy juggle of working and mum life?

She Moves has reframed the way I think about exercise and moving my body. In the past, I felt like I always had to push and if I wasn’t challenging my body I wasn’t doing anything, that if I wasn’t working out for 45 minutes to an hour then what was the point? However, now I know 20 minutes of movement is enough, and it can get me through the day as sometimes that is all I have that time for and that’s ok!

One piece of advice to a new mum who is returning to exercise after having a baby?

My one piece of advice would be that it is too easy to prioritise your baby, you need to specifically put the time aside to do something for yourself and your health because then you can show up as the best version of yourself for your baby and everyone else.

Kelly shared some amazing tips and insights in our conversation that I know our mums out there will love, thank you for choosing us to be your support system we love having you in our community.
